KRITERIA BIBIT-BEBET-BOBOT PADA PERJODOHAN ADAT JAWA DI DESA KEDIREN KECAMATAN KALITENGAH KABUPATEN LAMONGAN PERSPEKTIF HUKUM ISLAM

Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to reveal how the criteria of seed, bebet, weight in Javanese traditional matchmaking for prospective brides in Kediren village, Kalitengah district, Lamongan district and how Islamic law views on the criteria of Seed, Bebet, Weight in Javanese traditional matchmaking.  This study used an empirical type of research, namely unwritten positive law research regarding the behavior of community members in social life relations, in other words this study revealed the living law in society through actions taken by the community.  This study used primary and secondary data sources.  Data collection techniques used were interviews and documentation.  The stages of data analysis in this research were editing, classifying, verifying, analyzing and concluding.  The results of this study indicated that: First, the criteria for seeds, bebet and weight in Javanese traditional matchmaking in Kediren village are considerations used by the bride and groom and the bride's family before marriage.  Then there are other considerations before the families of both parties decided to marry off their children, namely by calculating the weton of the prospective bride and groom.  Second, that the criteria for seeds, bebet and weight do not conflict with Islamic law.  In Islam, it is highly recommended to look at the criteria for a potential partner before marriage, namely wealth, descent, beauty, and religion.
